2010 Elections: Federal Races
Federal Races Statewide Races N.C. Senate Races N.C. House Races
U.S. SENATE: As do all 50 states, North Carolina elects two members to the U.S. Senate. The terms for U.S. Senate seats are six years and they are elected on a staggered schedule. The seat currently held by Sen. Kay Hagan (D) was voted upon in 2008, and the seat currently held by Sen. Richard Burr (R) will be on the 2010 ballot.
U.S. HOUSE: Elections for North Carolina 13 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives take place every two years. All incumbent members have expressed their intentions to run for reelection in 2010. Currently, North Carolina’s congressional delegations is made up of eight Democrats and five Republicans.
2010 Candidate Questionnaires:
In March, the NC FreeEnterprise Foundation sent candidate questionnaires to all candidates running for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House in districts with primary opposition. We repeated the process in May for candidates in districts with only a General Election contest. The candidates’ responses to our questionnaires are available here.
✦ Scanned Questionnaires: Click on the “Q” beside a candidate’s name to download and view a scanned copy of the candidate’s completed questionnaire. (If a candidate does not have a “Q” by their name, they either did not complete and return a candidate questionnaire, or they are not running in a district with primary opposition.
Please Note: All candidates were asked to respond to one or more open-ended questions and were invited to provide additional comments or explanations for their answers if the answer options provided did not enable them to accurately convey their positions or opinions. Please refer the the candidates’ scanned questionnaires to view responses to open-ended questions and to see additional comments.
